SHOW & TELL.: Call to Action: Art for Japan →
paperalligator:
A derail from your usual programming here at Show & Tell; but please don’t tune out. My sister and I wanted to put together something in light of the recent earthquakes and tsunami that’ve affected Japan, so here goes:
On March 11, 2011, Japan was devastated by one of the worst earthquakes…

Dear Writers ... (#3)
Writers write books. Plural. … If you are a writer, you are a writer. For life. It consumes a pretty big part of your identity. Writing books, like having kids, isn’t really a sideline. It’s not a list item. It’s a way of living.
Sellers, Heather. Chapter by Chapter, (Ch. 2, pg. 24)
Like Heather Sellers says, why would you want to write just ONE book? Do you start a...

Dear Writers ... (#2)
I want the writer to make me suspend my disbelief; I want to be in some other place and scene of the writer’s devising.
- John D. MacDonald.
As James Scott Bell says (who quotes this in his book), “we must weave a dreamscape for our readers.” Don’t make excuses like “that’s too outrageous” or “they’d never believe that.” Given a bit...

Dear Writers ... (#1)
Slow is the new fast…Time-soaked writing is good writing. …
Sellers, Heather. Chapter by Chapter, (Ch. 5, pg. 40)
Your book needs two years, not two months, to grow. Slowing down brings out the wonderful, deep taste that cannot be brought out with a quick pan-fry. Give it time, constantly working on it patiently and slowly. The conveniences of technology cannot speed up the...

Microsoft Courier
While I’m primarily an apple fan, I gravitate towards using microsoft products, mostly due to accessibility and price. In other words, I admire apple for what they do best, but I don’t hate on microsoft either, though they can be pretty stupid sometimes. xP
Anyway, that aside, here’s some interesting news I just caught today on engadget:
Looks fantastic imo, if not more...

Sorry about the silence. ^^; Nice link today to make up for it. :)
“1000 Words” - DA flash story.
No, not related to FFX (though that’s what I thought when my buddy linked it to me). It’s just a really sweet story that questions art and its purposes. It’s done really well. :)

Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor
Just finished DTB season 2 (finally), though with a lot of mixed feelings.
As a Hei fan, I’m sad that they didn’t have more of him. He pretty much had a total of three expressions throughout the entire thing with barely any change in voice (must have been reeaaalllyy boring for the seiyuu, Hidenobu Kiuchi!).
Plotwise, season 2 was interesting. The story was relatively well paced,...

Starry☆Sky
Latest obsession: Starry☆Sky (click the image for a bigger one. :3)
My first Otome game, picked up partly because I kept seeing products for it in Akiba, partly because Daisuke Ono (Koizumi), Tomokazu Sugita (Kyon) and Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch) are all involved in it. The first game had both Daisuke-san and Tomokazu-san…which is really what made me jump onto the bandwagon, haha. ^^; Other...

Darker than Black
So my latest obsession in anime has been “Darker than Black”. Absolutely in love with Hei, though it seems that Yin is a more popular character… loli love I guess.
Anyway, I just think it’s a brilliant story/concept. The animation is also so smooth and clean, and Hei is so..*drool*
Enough fangirling. In all reality, season 1 could have done with a bit more spice in the...

Music Mash #1
So I’ve decided to make some music posts every now and then. Because everyone loves cool music, and there’s nothing like sharing cool stuff with other peeps. ^o^
First one has embedding disabled, so here’s a link: Owl City’s “Firefly”
He’s got a nice singing voice. ^^
Next one just needs two words - FREAKIN’ AWESOME: The Yoshida Brothers’...

Fairy Tail anime
OH GOSH, SO BAD. It’s seriously…the animation is so bad. SO. BAD.
Do your eyes a favor and don’t watch it.
If you absolutely have to try it out, just close your eyes and listen to the voices, don’t give your eyes cancer.

Paperless future? →
This link caught my eye partly because I love gadgets, and partly because, as a writer, this type of decision really concerns me. Well, less ‘concerns’ and more ‘affects me … a lot.’ For artists, the type of medium that’s used is really important for the piece itself. If I were writing for something on paper, for example, I’d take different considerations...

The tiniest world. →
While I’ve never been a particular fan of insects, bugs and similar (except in very particular situations), I have to admit that this guy’s photography is mind-boggling to the point where you want to admire every single detail captured on his magic camera, insectophobia or not.
Also worth mentioning, he’s done some really fascinating stereogram macros, the kind of pictures which...

Terry Brooks - Seeker of Truth series
After going through all eleven books in the Seeker of Truth series, I finally feel like I can put forward my say on them.
While each book feels entertaining individually, I found that the series as a whole seemed to drag on into what felt like perpetuity. It seems like at the beginning of every book, some event from the previous triggers a new cataclysmic event capable of destroying all of...

So. Here we are then. Right. I suppose I should decide to focus on in this blog. A games review? Maybe, though I don’t really play enough different games to keep this going for long. Book reviews should add some longevity. Who am I kidding. I’ll just post about whatever I feel like posting about. Structure is for losers! =D

Saw the most amazing performance the night before; “Tao”, a Japanese drumming group described as “Samurai magical drummers” or some silly tag-line like that. They’re totally in sync with each other, their moves are totally elegant, artistic, and creative, the music itself sounds beautiful/awesome/inspiring…They play with such…verve. It’s impossible...

Fashion statements. →
This will definitely pique your interest if you like being on top of Japanese fashion. Best site for clothing inspiration I’ve found yet (drawing, not wearing; I’m too lazy to update my wardrobe, and finding a shop that sells this kind of stuff locally would require wading through masses of blindingly fobby people and/or products…).

Just another blog, in another universe.
I’m not sure what to expect of this blog. Maybe craziness, maybe funnyness, maybe awesomeness, maybe some educational schmuck with a smattering of really boring stuff. Things like blogs tend to evolve on their own, just as anything else in the world wide web. If you absolutely must have a category for this blog, I suppose you would have to put half into the ‘otaku’ folder, and...
