Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor

Just finished DTB season 2 (finally), though with a lot of mixed feelings.

As a Hei fan, I’m sad that they didn’t have more of him. He pretty much had a total of three expressions throughout the entire thing with barely any change in voice (must have been reeaaalllyy boring for the seiyuu, Hidenobu Kiuchi!).

Plotwise, season 2 was interesting. The story was relatively well paced, and unlike season 1, there wasn’t really any deviation from the main storyline (ie: you had to watch the entire thing, unlike the first season where you could have just skipped about 8 episodes and not have missed anything important… ^^; ). Having said that though, there are a lot of things that were really vague, and the last episode was …. way too crammed. It’s almost like they suddenly ran out of money, so they decided to try and mash all the explanations of everything into one episode. And conclude it all with various open-ended things …. Which is similar to season 1 I suppose. Episode 11, I had no idea what was going on. The last episode, I kind of got what was going on, but didn’t really? I guess my only real confusion is the whole Izanami/Izanagi thing (like, in the end, what they did wasn’t reaaalllyy…an earth-shakingly horrible thing? Where in season 1 it was like, everyone’s gonna die! kind of thing.).

Well, overall, I really like how the world of DTB itself is evolving; contractors, dolls and so on are all changing and not staying the same, and it’s a consistent change that’s continued from season 1, which I thought was a nice touch.

So more Hei love needed, and more details! are my only complaints. Though I guess the first complaint isn’t super valid, since this was mostly focused on Suou, not Hei….Well, other than those, Suou’s journey was great. I admit I was a bit teary-eyed towards the end bit. ^^;
